Fifty days after the resurrection, the roof came off. Everybody spoke in tongues. And nobody asked what kind of fire that was.

“His Tongue Is On Fire” is an industrial gospel track about Pentecost: the holiday where a god fixes a problem he created himself. At Babel he scrambled human language. A few thousand years later he patches the bug and calls it a miracle.
The song asks the questions you’re not supposed to ask. Why does language need a wall? Why did the fire come for the tongue and not the hand? And what exactly separates religious ecstasy from the other kind, when both make the body shake, and only one of them gets a holiday?
Satire is the oldest way of asking a forbidden question. No one is mocked here who isn’t in charge.
🎬 Visual style: Cinematic gothic. Velvet theatre, candlelight, red curtains, a single flame above a bald head. Pentecost taken literally. Sacred imagery in a room that was never meant for worship.
